DataCite is a global community of organisations with a mission to connect research and advance knowledge. On 8 December 2023 we reached the important milestone of 3000 Repository accounts (“Repositories”) held by our Direct Members and Consortium Organizations. The journey to 3000 DataCite Repositories reflects the increasing importance of using Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to share diverse research outputs and resources.

DataCite now has a mechanism built into Fabrica for designating a Repository account as an IGSN ID Catalog that will be used exclusively for the registration of IGSN IDs. This development ensures identification of Repositories and prefixes that are used for IGSN ID registration, and enables IGSN IDs to be tracked and identified. It also enables future updates to DataCite services and our Metadata Schema to be correctly applied to IGSN IDs.

We are happy to announce that we have improved the prefix assignment workflow in Fabrica. Following  pillar one of our strategic plan: “Provide easy, efficient and responsive community services to support the needs of our community”, we simplified the prefix assignment workflow. The new process gives more autonomy to our members when setting up repositories in Fabrica.

We are happy to announce that we are taking the final steps on our way to providing you with all the relevant information you need. We outlined this transition already last year, meaning to move away from our current mailing lists to mailing lists that will be based on member information available in DataCite Fabrica. We are excited to announce that this step will happen this week.
