As preparation to the submission of the first preprint from the research study in the FAIR Workflows project, I spoke with Professor Lucia Melloni, the co-director of the project and principal investigator at the MPIEA, to discuss the influence and evolution of preprints in neuroscience research. Our conversation provided an in-depth look at her experiences and views on this shift in scientific dissemination.

Hello from Sweden! I’m Sara El-Gebali, and I’m excited to be joining DataCite’s Engagement team as a Metadata Specialist. It’s a new chapter for me, one in which I’ll engage with the dynamic world of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) and be part of their global influence. One of the projects I am most excited to be joining is PID4NFDI, where I can work with the community shaping the PID landscape both nationally and internationally.

The Open Access Week 2023 advocates for the theme "Community over Commercialization," emphasizing the significance of fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment. This theme highlights the important role of prioritizing communal benefits and knowledge dissemination over profit-driven motives. By promoting open access to scholarship, this initiative aims to amplify the value of shared information, collaborative endeavors, and the democratization of knowledge. Raising awareness among the research community about the value of prioritizing the common good over commercial interests can foster a culture of open and equitable access, and collective progress. It encourages the research community to actively engage in the dissemination of their work, fostering a vibrant and interconnected research ecosystem that thrives on inclusivity and shared expertise.

ources are openly available and connected so that their reuse can advance knowledge across and between disciplines, now and in the future. To help guide and support our growth and ongoing development, DataCite has several committees for community members to advise and support DataCite:

Community Engagement Steering Group (CESG), with Regional Expert Groups

Services and Technology Steering Group (STSG)

Metadata Working Group (WG)

These groups provide a venue for participation and feedback by interested community members and help us with priority setting and identify strategies related to our services, metadata, and outreach.

We are happy to announce that we currently have an open call for nominations for new steering and working group members! Each group has open seats for representatives from member organizations, as well as seats for representatives from non-member organizations who bring new expertise to the groups. Group members will be chosen based on their specific expertise. We strive for diversity and are therefore looking to include members from different regions, genders, backgrounds, and types of organizations. We specifically encourage members from Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia to apply.
