Has this self-evident fact really never been written down before?

The communication of knowledge requires different forms for different formats – so far, so good. For the Research Data Day, for example, we developed the Data Clues. This was a format where we caught the interest of passing students and lecturers with a chance glance. The Long Night of Science had a different setting and audience. Die Vermittlung von Wissen benötigt unterschiedliche Formen für unterschiedliche Formate – soweit, so klar. Für den Tag der Forschungsdaten z.B. haben wir die Daten im Fadenkreuz entwickelt. Das war ein Format, wo wir von vorbeieilenden Studierenden und Dozierenden durch einen zufälligen Blick Interesse erhaschten. Die Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften am 28.06 2025 in Berlin hatte ein anderes Setting und Publikum.
June 26, the WiNoDa and DALIA teams hosted a dynamic three‑hour online workshop on “Mapping learning resources and identifying gaps in data competence portfolios.” We brought together participants from data competence centers (DKZs), NFDI consortia (such as DALIA and RDMT), regional RDM projects, and domain experts to share, map, and strategize on how we deliver data competence training across initiatives.

For the Bremen Research Data Day, our WiNoDa colleagues from gfBio had registered us quite early for the “FAIRplay Station”. Like last year, they wanted to participate with the game “Data Detectives”, in which various objects had to be identified using metadata such as date, location, etc. The Museum of Natural History had kindly provided us with some fossils/plaster casts that were described by up to five clues.

My main task at WiNoda is to create self-study courses on various topics that we want to make available via Moodle. The range of courses on research data management is already quite large. However, many courses are still somewhat generic – or very specific. For example, there are excellent programs for training data stewards – but this qualification does not meet the needs of a collection curator or excavation manager.
In June 2023, I stumbled into the Research Data Day at the University of Bremen somewhat by chance – at the time, I had just decided that I wanted to work in this exciting new academic field of research data management/research data infrastructure/open science myself.
