Organized in collaboration with the University of Oslo, registration is now open for the next PKP Sprint happening June 2nd and 3rd, 2025, in Oslo, Norway. The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is dedicated to fostering consistent engagement and collaboration with its community. As such, During PKP sprints, community members have a direct impact on the development of PKP software.

For the first edition of our Community Newsletter of 2025, we are happy to reflect on the events PKP hosted and participated in during 2024. Events, especially in-person, allow PKP to get closer to our community. They also represent an opportunity to share experiences with community members and new users worldwide, which is why they are a crucial part of PKP activities during the year.

Indonesia, the largest country in the world using OJS based on Beacon Data in 2022, holds 19,997 journals out of 44,000 journals and continues to grow significantly. Among those numbers, more than 5,000 journals still use the older version of OJS. which is no longer supported, lack of security issues, and missing the new features and plugins.

The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is investing in the future of open book publishing by undertaking a review of Open Monograph Press (OMP), led by myself, as PKP’s OMP Coordinator. I have long been an advocate for open book publishing, given the importance of books as a way to communicate knowledge, and their particular importance to Humanities disciplines.
