My beat on SLAW.ca is typically, if not all too predictably, the copyright trials and tribulations of scholarly communication. I’d be the first to admit that matters of access to this body of knowledge are relatively straightforward compared to what takes place next door with patent licensing, especially when pharmaceuticals are involved.

The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is pleased to announce the release of Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3.1.2. We would like to thank the PKP community, including support from our global network of sustainers, developers, and publishing clients, for making this update possible. This release includes minor bug fixes and enhancements as well as several new features.

At the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), we hold two-day events called “sprints.” PKP sprints consist of small organized in-person teams that come together to solve common software issues. Kind of like an “un-conference.” Familiar with the SMART acronym? It’s kind of like that too.

We are pleased to announce the next PKP Sprint will be taking place at Simon Fraser University’s Harbour Centre campus in downtown Vancouver on May 6th and 7th, 2019. PKP sprints run “unconference” style, typically focusing on rapid code development for our open source publishing applications. Small, self-organized teams work together to solve common software issues or make enhancements that benefit everyone.
