PKP partner TIB in Germany, is asking academic libraries to collectively fund seven open access journals from quantum physics, computer science, and mathematics in order to help these journals adhere to high publishing standards and to publish without author fees. PKP supports this approach and encourages those interested to answer the call for libraries to participate in the KOALA funding round by contacting TIB.

PKP Welcomes White House Rule on Immediate Open Access.   On August 25th 2022, the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy terminated a major concession to publishers on the road to open access. The OSTP memo indicates that by December 31st, 2025, publishers will have to provide immediate public access to research sponsored by U.S. federal agencies, from Agricultural Research to Veterans Affairs.

PKP’s software is widely used around the world, but it is only now that we feel confident in stating that Open Journal Systems (OJS) is supporting over 25,000 active journals, collectively publishing up to a million articles per year.

PKP has developed the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to digitally preserve OJS journals. The PKP PN ensures that journals that are not part of any other digital preservation service (such as CLOCKSS or Portico) can be preserved for long-term access. Preserved content in the PKP PN is only made available to users after a trigger event, at which time the content will be made accessible to the reading public.

Should copyright be on the open access agenda? John Willinsky says yes as he embarks on a world tour to convince stakeholders that it is time for reform.

Editors or those with multiple roles in a journal use the submissions lists to identify which submissions need action, which submissions are waiting for reviewers or authors, when they need to nudge other editors to take actions, or when expected tasks are overdue. Sometimes these lists get long and it becomes difficult for editors to filter the submissions that need action.
